Michigan State's Lucious Suspended for Rest of Season

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Michigan State Spartans, participants in the past two Final Fours, have had a tumultuous season.

Now they will finish without the player who helped get them to the promise land. ESPN has reported that coach Tom Izzo has suspended Korie Lucious for the remainder of the season.

After starting as the second ranked team in the country, the Spartans have stumbled to a disappointing 12-7 record.

The reasons for the suspension are not completely clear, but Lucious had been in and out of trouble, missing two games already this season.

Lucious is remembered for leading the Spartans to the Final Four last year, stepping up after teammate Kalin Lucas went down with an injury.

He did not seem especially sad at first, initially sending out a lighthearted tweet after the suspension was first announced late Tuesday night.

There might have been a long standing issue influencing the decision, perhaps a falling out between the player and his coach. Lucious' stats would suggest some kind of mental funk; in his last five games he averaged only 5.2 ppg while shooting an abysmal 23%.

When asked if he was going to transfer, Lucious said he had not decided yet.
