Big East Roundup: Multiple Upsets Thwarted

Today featured numerous close calls in the Big East as some of the league's lower tier teams nearly pulled off big upsets.

The biggest underdog was DePaul, who was winless heading into today's matchup at Louisville. The Blue Demons (6-16, 0-10) kept up with the Cardinals the whole game, even leading for a large part of the first half, but they couldn't hold on. Led by Kyle Kuric's 19 points off the bench, Louisville (18-5, 7-3) held on for 61-57 victory.

Marshon Brooks stole the show in D.C. scoring 43 points, but even that wasn't enough for Providence (14-10, 3-8) to overcome Georgetown. Chris Wright stole the ball from Brooks in the closing seconds, securing an 83-81 win for the Hoyas (18-5, 7-4).

Seton Hall (10-14, 4-8) held a 54-41 lead with 11:21 left in its game against UConn, but scored only five more points the rest of the way, allowing Connecticut (18-4, 6-4) to mount a come back. Jeremy Hazell and Kemba Walker went shot for shot, scoring 20 and 19, respectively, but Walker's Huskies came out on top, 61-59.

Elsewhere around the Big East, Pittsburgh (21-2, 9-1) won against Cincinnati (18-5, 5-5) 71-59, maintaining its stronghold atop the conference. Villanova (19-4, 7-3) had a solid win against West Virginia (15-7, 6-4), beating them 66-50. And Steve Lavin lost in his return to Westwood as St. John's (13-9, 5-5) fell to UCLA.
